My Kitchen Planner (pdf)
DownloadA key element of a successful kitchen renovation is deciding upon a budget. This obviously sets the scope of what we can specify and helps us manage your expectations. We can offer ballpark figures during our initial meeting with you, followed up by a detailed quotation that is in line with what was discussed.
The first day is all about saying goodbye to the old kitchen. Typically, we have two people on the job, and sometimes a third to haul away the waste. At My Kitchen Installations, we believe in keeping things clean as we go. Instead of having an eyesore of a skip sitting outside your house, we take the rubbish back to our yard, sort it, and recycle as much as possible. Appliances and metals? Recycled directly. Other waste? Taken in skips for further sorting. Oh, and none of it ends up in a landfill—our waste provider guarantees that.
We’ll also remove any old furniture, appliances, and, if needed, lift the flooring and strip tiles off the walls. Stubborn tile adhesive? Consider it gone.
Important Tip: If you’re planning on removing your own kitchen, take safety seriously. Of course, you’ll want to avoid dropping cabinets on your feet, but also be mindful of hidden hazards like asbestos. Artex ceilings often contain asbestos, so proper protective gear and disposal methods are a must!
Now it's time to roll up our sleeves and start running the new plumbing and electrical lines. This is where we’ll chase the walls and floors to hide the necessary wiring and pipes. No more clutter, just sleek, hidden services.
Most rooms will need plastering. Getting a smooth, professional finish on the walls has a surprising impact on how great everything else looks once it's done! This usually starts on Day 3 and can take two or three days, especially if we’re also boarding and plastering the ceiling.
If we've worked on your ceiling, we’ll bring in the electricians again to install your ceiling lights. After all, it’s important that our fitters can actually see what they’re doing—and you’ll need those lights to shine on your new kitchen!
With the walls plastered and services in place, it’s time to tackle the floor. Depending on your choice—whether it's Amtico or ceramic tiles—we’ll get it prepped and laid. We always tile the entire floor, not just under the cabinets. This way, if there’s ever a leak, you’ll spot it right away!
Here’s where the magic happens. Fitting the cabinets is the largest part of the job, usually taking about 7–9 days, depending on the size of the room. Appliances are installed at this stage too, though they won’t be connected just yet.
Now that the base cabinets are in, it's time to measure for those stunning solid surface worktops. We use templating—sometimes with physical templates made from boards, or even high-tech laser measurements. Worktops typically take around two weeks to be ready after templating.
Once your worktops are in, we can connect the sink, taps, and hob. At this point, ovens and other appliances will be connected and fully functional. You’re almost ready to cook!
With the worktops in place, we’ll move on to the wall finishes. Whether you’re going for classic tiles, sleek glass, or something else entirely, the splashbacks go in next. Many people are now choosing to use the same material for their splashback as they did for the worktop—an upstand behind the hob, for example. Once this is done, the only thing left is the decorating!
Now for the final touch! Once the worktops are installed, it’s time to add the splashbacks. Whether you're opting for tiles, glass, or even a continuation of your worktop material, this is what really ties the room together. Many folks love the seamless look of using the same material behind the hob for a sleek upstand and splashback combo. Once that’s done, all that’s left is the decorating—adding your personal flair to your beautiful new kitchen!
